Will Creatine Really Help You Lose Weight?

Maybe you've heard about creatine and weight loss and wondered if it can really help you drop those extra pounds. Though it seems like a straightforward question, the answer is a bit more complicated than you might expect. Creatine can help you reduce your body fat percentage very quickly, but you may not be losing any weight. So if you want to reduce your body fat, then this article may be able to help you. On the other hand, if you're just looking to lose weight, then you'll need to look elsewhere.

What Creatine Does

I'll try to explain what creatine does without getting bogged down in the technicalities. Since I don't want you to start tuning out, I'll avoid using too many of those annoying scientific terms. So here it is in its most basic form. Creatine increases the amount of fluid in each individual cell in your muscles, thereby making them appear larger. The scientific name for this is sarcoplasmic hypertrophy. If you take creatine every day for 4 - 6 weeks, you can expect an average muscle growth of 5 - 10 pounds.

How Does Creatine Help You Lower Your Body Fat Percentage?

Your body fat percentage is simply a comparison of how much fat you have compared to the total mass of your body. This means there are two ways to lower your body fat percentage - by losing body fat or by increasing your muscle mass. If you follow the prescribed program, you can shed 1 or even 2% of your body fat percentage before you head off for that beach vacation or return home for your high school reunion.

The Proper Way to Use Creatine to Improve Your Look on Vacation

If you've been planning a great vacation or attending a gala event, I would wait until 3 - 4 weeks before hand to start using creatine. Too many people think of creatine as a way to keep muscle mass during the winter, but that's not the most productive method for preparing for your summer vacation. Instead, in the months leading up to your vacation, you should drop your weight with a diet, but still try to keep your same muscle mass. Develop as lean a shape as you can manage using a healthy diet and a daily workout regimen. When you've gotten yourself as lean as you can go, that's when you want to take advantage of the creatine. When you're 3 - 4 weeks away from the big affair, start taking 5 grams of creatine twice a day. Don't give up that diet just because you're on the creatine. You'll be able to add about 5 - 15 pounds of muscle to your frame, so any remaining body fat will be nearly undetectable.

This Formula Will Also Give You that Shrink Wrapped Look

Creatine not only increases the muscle mass, but also keeps the skin around your abs nice and tight. One of the quickest ways to lose definition around your abs is to have loose skin. To avoid arriving at your vacation with a less than perfect set of abs, you need to be sure that any loose skin has been filled in - something creatine can do. So, yes, creatine may help you look as if you've lost weight, but no, it won't cause you to actually lose weight.
